Smaller towns around here tend to have a Christmas market for just one weekend. Last weekend we headed up to Backnang to check their out for the first time. Why Backnang? well for a start the lovely half timbered, fairytale style town centre, the always impressive and beautifully sparkly Christmas tree and it just so happens to be twinned with Chelmsford, UK (as well as some other countries) so every year some Brits come over for the Christmas Market and run a stall full of English goodies.
The English stall was quite small but contained plenty of marmalade, tea and English beer. No Cadburys (sad) but they did have crackers! proper crackers as long as your forearm! So much better than Knallbonbons that are all you can find here, and I could just buy two, perfect. As far as I’m concerned there’s no better way to spend two euro, roll on Christmas dinner 🙂
Backnang and it’s Christmas market are both small but perfectly formed. The food at the market was so good I have a whole post coming up about just that tomorrow, it’s not just Glühwein and Bratwurst!
